On Saturday 17th October, the teams met at the Royal Canoe Club in Teddington to attend the second briefing for the 2010 London 2 Paris Rowing Challenge.

The key theme for this briefing was safety. Race organiser Mike Oram, who heads the safety and support team for the Challenge, left no doubt in the minds of the competitors regarding the seriousness of the organisers' commitment to safety. He also made clear what is expected of the competitors themselves. As Mike emphasised, "this is a Challenge NOT to be taken lightly!"

Malcolm Knight, who played a key logistical and support role for the 2008 Challenge, reinforced this point with the observation that "It may be the English channel but it's the French that rule it!" The French Coastguard are well known for taking an extremely rigorous approach to safety on both the Channel and the tidal stretch of the Seine.
