Safety is paramount when organising an event such as this. Jock Wishart the project manager of this event has organised expeditions all around the world and, particularly relevant to this event, Jock organises the Polar Race – a race for teams to the Magnetic North Pole. Jock and Gary Walker ran the first Polar Race in 2003 and the third race is in 2007 (www.polarrace.com). An experienced and knowledgeable team is vital to manage the inevitable risks involved.

• Each Cutter will have a licensed support craft capable of carrying the full squad in case of an emergency between London and Rouen.
• From Rouen to Paris the boats will be escorted by two safety ribs crewed by professional boatmen
• In addition to the above, there will be a Control Boat accompanying the race throughout and will provide extra safety support if required.
• All support boats and the control boat will have VHF communications.
